Welcome

On behalf of Carers WA and the Carers Symposium & Expo 2008 Organising Committee, I take great pleasure in inviting you to join us at the Carers Symposium & Expo 2008. The Symposium themed “Worth of Carers” will take place on the 24th & 25th November 2008 at the Burswood Convention Centre, Perth.

The Carers Symposium & Expo 2008 is WA’s principal event highlighted in the calendars of family carers, community services and carer related organisations. By attending you will have access to carers and a broad range of individuals and organisations throughout WA who support carers and service the community care sector.

Never has care in our communities been more prevalent. As our population ages, medical intervention extends our lifespan, and the trend away from residential support continues, more demand is placed on unpaid informal care. The number of carers in WA has risen to 250,000 and is accelerating, but what is the “WORTH OF CARERS”? What is the emotional, physical and financial contribution that carers provide and is this worth recognised by society?

The Symposium program addresses the issues of care and how it impacts on all of us in a series of presentations, workshops and discussions followed by a day of open space technology for delegates to create their own agenda.

Your attendance is vital to make the Symposium a huge success. The Organising Committee thanks you for your interest and look forward to seeing you at the Symposium & Expo in November.
